The Delta Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress to permit due course of to prevail over the invitation of its president by the police.
Abaniwonda made the decision on Thursday when the Delta chapter of NLC held a protest in solidarity with its president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, on the state police headquarters in Asaba.
The protest was led by NLC’s first Vice-Chairman within the state, Comrade Ziko Okwudi.
Ajaero, who was not too long ago invited by the police over an alleged involvement in terrorism, honoured the invitation in Abuja on Thursday.
The Commissioner of Police stated Ajaero’s invitation was purely interactive to help police investigation into the allegation.
“As a safety company, what the police do is to research. No one is intimidating or witch-hunting the NLC president.
“It is according to our obligation to hold out investigations into allegations that we prolonged an invite to the NLC president to come back and inform us what he is aware of.
“No one has threatened him with arrest because the invitation is only interactive; I can guarantee you.
“One thing is sure, in the final analysis, Nigerians will be told what the interaction is all about; so I want to appeal to labour not to pre-empt the process,” Abaniwonda stated.
However, the CP recommended the NLC in Delta for the peaceable method it carried out the solidarity protest, urging them to stay peaceable and law-abiding.

He stated the Federal Government was not out to intimidate the NLC and its management, as perceived in some quarters.
Rather, he stated the FG would proceed to work with labour for the betterment of the nation at massive.
