AUDA-NEPAD to empower smallholder farmers in Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer of the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development Nigeria, Ms Gloria Akobundu, on Friday, listed seven states to learn from the primary part of the smallholder farmers initiative.

She made this announcement throughout a stakeholders’ engagement on the mainstreaming of the African Union Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme in Abuja, which was monitored in Kano.

According to her, the states embody Nasarawa, Cross River, Imo, Abia, Kano, and Kebbi.

Akobundu acknowledged that the target of the initiative is to deal with meals provide challenges and bolster native agricultural manufacturing within the nation.

She highlighted that the initiative is a part of AUDA-NEPAD’s broader mandate below Agenda 2063 to help member states via useful resource mobilisation and technical help.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Planning in Nasarawa State, Munira Abdullahi, highlighted the progress within the state’s agricultural sector, emphasising initiatives that started throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

She counseled the dedication of Governor Sule Abdullahi to sustainable agricultural practices, noting the cultivation of 10,000 hectares, with 5,000 already ready for harvest.

Key crops within the state, in accordance with her, embody rice, maize, and sesame, geared toward enhancing the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

“The state is devoted to enhancing agricultural productiveness and sustainability, fostering group progress via modern practices and partnerships. I want to applaud AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria for sustaining such an excellent imaginative and prescient for our individuals.
