Benue shifts LG election to Nov 16

The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission has shifted the state’s native authorities election from July 6 to November 16, 2024.

The Chairman of the fee, John Chen, disclosed this whereas talking with newsmen on Friday in Makurdi.

Chen mentioned the change of date was necessitated by logistical constraints.

He mentioned the fee wanted extra time to arrange and procure election supplies, which he mentioned had not but been procured.

“We have commenced the method of rescheduling by creating a revised timetable that can accommodate all important actions and permit adequate time for satisfactory preparation.

“Today serves as the date for the issuance of the election notice in accordance with the relevant Statutes, particularly Sections 103 (3) and 150 of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, and detailed guidelines will be released in due course in accordance with these laws,” he mentioned.

The Chairman appealed to all political events, candidates and significant stakeholders to cooperate with the fee to allow it to conduct a free and truthful election.
