Delta court docket sentences two to demise for homicide, theft, rape

A Delta State High Court sitting at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state has sentenced two males, Mr Ojerbo Solomon and Mr Ola Babatunde, to demise after eight years of trials.

The court docket, Presided over by Justice M.O. Omovie, convicted and sentenced the 2 males for homicide, armed theft, and rape.

The prosecution led by Mr E.H. Edema had, by its 5 witnesses, led proof to indicate that on February 8, 2016, the 2 defendants, whereas armed with weapons, cutlasses, and knives, broke into the home of the victims.

“In the course of the armed theft, the defendants raped the victims and thereafter slit their throats.

“One of the victims, Mr Praise Sunday, survived the assault, however his mom and Sister died from the assault.

“After committing the attack, the two defendants escaped on the victim’s motorcycle to Ewohimi in Edo State, from where they were later apprehended by the police,” he stated.

In the course of the trial, the 2 Defendants gave proof of their defence and denied the allegation of their testimony however referred to as no witnesses.

Justice Omovie in his judgement said that after fastidiously evaluating the proof offered on the trial, he got here to the conclusion that the prosecution had proved the case in opposition to the 2 defendants past affordable doubt, and accordingly convicted each defendants as charged.

Justice Omovie stated, “The two Defendants hereby sentenced to death by hanging.”
