Gombe confirms diphtheria case, urges vaccination

The Gombe State Commissioner of Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, has introduced that the state Public Health Emergency Operations Centre has been positioned on alert following confirmed and suspected instances of diphtheria in Herwagana Ward, Gombe.

Our correspondent experiences that Diphtheria brought on by Corynebacterium diphtheriae, is a vaccine-preventable illness characterised by extreme throat and respiratory infections that might result in demise if untreated.

Dahiru disclosed that the state has recorded three suspected instances and one confirmed case of diphtheria.

He burdened the provision of vaccines for diphtheria prevention, particularly for kids, at Primary Health Centres throughout Gombe State and urged dad and mom and guardians to make sure immediate vaccination of their kids to safeguard them from this doubtlessly deadly illness.

The commissioner referred to as for heightened consciousness and proactive measures to comprise the unfold of diphtheria within the affected areas.

He mentioned, “The confirmed case indicated the affected child had not been immunised against Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus, which come together in one vaccine, preventable through the pentavalent vaccine administered three times to protect against childhood killer diseases.”
