Love Island winner Kai Fagan returns to day job and opens up on weight struggle

Love Island winner and PE teacher Kai Fagan has confessed he’s ditched the spotlight to return to his roots in teaching.

Just a year after taking the crown in the second winter series, the star who recently proposed to his Love Island beau Sanam Harrinanan, celebrated his comeback to the classroom.

Before his 2023 stint on the ITV dating show, Kai juggled roles as a PE teacher and science tutor alongside earning accolades from not one, but three universities. This Thursday, however, the fitness buff took to Instagram to announce his part-time return to sports education.

Gearing up to impact lives once more, the 26-year-old expressed his drive for making a difference. “First, week back working in Education I’ve always said I’d return and after the whirlwind of the last few years now is the perfect time,” his post read.

“I was offered a role to work part-time teaching Sports and I jumped at the opportunity. This allows me to continue to do everything I’m currently doing but also provides me with the opportunity to follow my passion and continue my career in education.”

Kai’s post highlighted his belief in positivity and inspiration, stating: “I’ve always believed in life that you should aim to make a positive impact on others. This is why I pursued my career, so I can be impactful in education and help young people to fulfil their potential, whilst achieving their dreams.”, reports OK!

The telly favourite has revealed he’s put in “extremely hard” graft to qualify as a teacher, dedicating five years to his studies. He shared a touching tale from his secondary school days about a PE teacher who encouraged him to play rugby, an experience that left a lasting impression and shaped his own teaching aspirations.

He said: “That interaction has always stuck with me and is something he probably doesn’t even realise. But that’s the sort of impact I’ve always aimed to have. Where my passion for my education can literally change the trajectory of someone’s life without realising it.”

Kai’s fans and followers rushed to the comments to cheer him on following his announcement, with his fiancee Sanam, also back at her regular job, praising his commitment to a noble career: “I’m so proud of you for continuing with such an amazing and worthwhile profession, you’re going to help change the lives of so many young people,” she commented.
