Matt Baker reveals devastating impact on his health after horror fall

Matt Baker has given an update on his progress after the horror panto fall that left him needing rehab.

The popular BBC presenter was appearing in a rendition of Goldilocks and the Three Bears when he sustained a horrifying injury after a stunt involving chairs went wrong. Matt was left crashing to the ground when the chairs weren’t secured correctly leaving him slamming down on his coccyx.

The impact caused The One Show star to suffer an excruciatingly painful herniated disc in his spine. Matt is still suffering from the injury despite attending regular rehab sessions to try and aid his recovery.

Speaking to The Sun, the ex-gymnast explained how it is a difficult process and a long road to recovery as he tries to regain his fitness and his strength. He said: “It’s a pain, it’s really challenging to get back and get fully fit again. I’m still like really… yeah it’s really tough. I’m just trying to do rehab all the time and stretch and do strength training exercises and that.”

Matt made his television return this week when he launched a brand new series of hit destination show Travels With Mum and Dad for More4. He has also been heard hinting that a return to The One Show could be on the cards following Jermaine Jenas’ shock departure last month.

Matt, 46, confessed that you “never leave the family” having been a key part of The One show team four years on from his departure.

Speaking fondly of his career experience and his time at the BBC the dad-of-two explained: “All of the shows that I’ve worked on over the years, even like Blue Peter especially, you leave the show but you don’t leave the family. I think that’s an important thing to remember and look, if they needed me then I’m more than happy to have a chat with them and see how I can be helpful.”

He then stressed his love for the show and that he would never rule out a return as he stressed it is “close” to his heart. He added: “Who knows, who knows at the moment, I’ve not had any conversations with anybody, but like I say, it’s a show that I still absolutely love.

“I spent nine years of my life dedicated to it and it’s a show that’s very close to my heart. It’s a family and you never leave the family.”
