Posts on X are popping up reporting that Microsoft has signed a growth and provide contract with Samsung Display for micro-OLED shows.
The info originates from a Korean tech web site, The Elec, which claims that Microsoft needs “hundreds of thousands” of those shows for an XR system designed for gaming and media consumption. In different phrases, a competitor for the Vision Pro — or slightly, one other competitor for the Vision Pro.

Sony, Samsung, Google, and Meta are all engaged on Vision Pro rivals in partnership with one another and different firms like LG and Qualcomm, and now it seems like we are able to add Microsoft to the checklist as properly. The firm is not any stranger to headsets, having made each VR gaming headsets prior to now and the work-enhancing AR headset HoloLens.
Whether the HoloLens 3 project is still alive and properly is unsure, although Microsoft positively hasn’t formally canceled the undertaking (but). Either means, not a lot has been occurring on the XR entrance at Microsoft for a while, so the prospect of a brand new system is welcome information.
The Korean report, citing trade sources, mentioned the Microsoft XR system might arrive as early as 2026. This appears fairly fast, particularly contemplating that Sony’s and Google’s gadgets don’t have any launch dates but, and Meta’s headset isn’t anticipated till 2027.
Despite the Vision Pro’s rocky launch and quite a few critics, it appears to have completed its most essential job — to kick-start a brand new wave of XR gadgets. With any luck, we should always see continued enhancements and improvements on this space for a while.
