A soldier with the Nigerian Army, on Tuesday, shot useless a 16-year-old #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protester within the Samaru group in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The teenage protester was recognized as Ismail Mohammed.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyeama Nwachukwu, confirmed the event in an announcement on Tuesday titled “Unfortunate death of a protester by a soldier in Zaria.”
Nwachukwu defined that the incident occurred on Tuesday when troops of the Nigerian Army obtained a misery name to assist disperse some hoodlums, who had gathered in Samaru burning tyres and attacking safety personnel.
Nwachukwu added that the mob tried to assault the troops, which led a soldier to fireside a warning shot to scare the hoodlums away, which led to Mohammed’s loss of life.
According to the Army spokesman, the soldier concerned has since been arrested and is present process interrogation.
The assertion learn, “On August 6, 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army obtained a misery name that some hoodlums gathered in Samaru in massive numbers, burning tyres on the street and pelting stones at safety personnel. The troops instantly mobilised and arrived on the scene to disperse the mob and implement the curfew imposed by the state authorities.
“On arrival on the scene, the hoodlums openly tried attacking the troops prompting a soldier to fireside a warning shot to scare the hoodlums away, which sadly led to the loss of life of a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed. The soldier concerned has since been arrested and is present process interrogation as of the time of this report.
“Saddened by the unlucky incident, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has despatched a high-powered delegation led by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj Gen Lander Saraso, to go to and condole with the household of the deceased.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had mentioned the police, army and different companies concerned within the administration of the #EndBadGovernance protest didn’t use dwell ammunition in the course of the protests.
Egbetokun disclosed this at a gathering of safety companies heads in Abuja.
He mentioned, “The police and the army and certainly no different safety company concerned within the administration of this protest haven’t deployed extreme use of pressure. Instead, what we had have been assaults on safety brokers in the course of the protest. From our document, there have been no capturing incidents by the police.
“The police or army didn’t use any dwell ammunition within the administration of those protests. Instead, we’ve had instances the place our officers have been injured and are in important situation as we communicate.
“I will dismiss that as fake news and very wrong allegations. We didn’t use excessive force at all. We didn’t even deploy the whole of our strength in this protest even when it turned violent. We have water cannons we did not deploy, we have rubber bullets, we didn’t use. All that we have used is teargas and nothing more.”
