Traders lament as hearth guts 40 Oyo outlets

Traders at a well-liked market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, lamented their losses on Monday when their over 40 outlets had been fully razed to the bottom after a hearth incident.

Though, no life was misplaced, the incident, which occurred on Saturday, on the widespread Oranyan Market, natural part, within the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of the state, destroyed multimillion naira property and herbs.

When PUNCH Metro visited the market, on Monday, the shopowners had been seen in numerous teams, gnashing their tooth over the unlucky incident.

Some of the victims, Fatimoh Adebimpe (the market youth chief); Kafaya Lucky, and Kehinde Moronfade, lamented that the reason for the hearth incident was nonetheless sketchy as no single meals vendor was out there when it started.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent on Monday, the General Manager of the state hearth service, Yemi Akinyinka, mentioned the headquarters acquired a hearth emergency name at precisely 23:25hrs on the incident.

He mentioned, “The incident affected 20 prefabricated outlets out of a number of adjourning rows of retailers.

“The property worth millions of naira was affected, while property worth billions of naira was saved, but no life was lost. Our personnel returned to the station at exactly 3:36hrs.”
