YouTube apparently rolls again characteristic that irked Apple TV customers
Our lengthy nationwide nightmare is over. As spotted by the folks who blew the whistle within the first place (and picked up by 9to5Mac), now you can use the YouTube app on Apple TV with out concern that YouTube itself will show a screensaver-like video as a preview of different movies once you’re not truly watching a video within the first place since you left the app idle.
Or in different phrases, of us should cease complaining that the YouTube app “stole” their screensaver away from Apple, although it didn’t. Not actually, anyway.
What occurred was that sooner or later in April 2024, the YouTube app on Apple TV began displaying what appeared like screensavers when you left the YouTube app idle for round 4 minutes and alter. And these screensavers had a bit of “Press up to play” icon that, when pressed up, would open the complete video of the screensaver. So, actually it was YouTube repurposing different movies as screensavers.
There had been a number of issues with that, although. Chief amongst them (to me, anyway) was that you just didn’t have any management over it. There had been no settings, and no mechanism by which to say “Don’t do that,” or “It’s fine, but wait longer before triggering.” It would hardly be the primary time Google aimed after firing, although.
Also problematic was that from a visible standpoint, the YouTube screensavers simply weren’t wherever close to as fascinating as Apple’s personal Aerial screensavers. Not by a protracted shot. Apple’s screensavers are still the best.
And then there are the Apple followers who scoffed on the mere concept that Google would dare sully their expertise one way or the other. I’m not amongst them, although I do assume Google might have performed this a bit of higher. Nor do I feel the YouTube app was hijacking the screensaver expertise — it was simply, effectively, bypassing it a bit of. You might set Apple’s screensaver to kick in faster, and that may preserve the YouTube app from launching its personal screensaver-like expertise that, as a result of manner issues work, would inform the Apple TV interface “I’m still showing a video, so don’t run your own screensaver!”
None of this was an enormous deal, although. Folks had been complaining about an app displaying one thing once you principally stopped taking note of the app within the first place. Coders may be intelligent generally, and this was a type of instances.
