JUST IN: ASUU joins NLC, TUC nationwide strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has joined the continued strike by the organised labour comprising Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.

This is coming after the Federal Government failed to fulfill the unions’ minimal wage demand.

In a press release addressed to the department chairpersons and zonal coordinators of ASUU on Monday, the affiliation’s President, Emmanuel Osodeke, directed lecturers in universities throughout the nation to hitch the strike as an affiliate of the congress.

The assertion learn, “The NLC has declared an indefinite strike motion starting from Monday, third June, 2024, on account of the failure of Government to conclude the renegotiation of minimal wage for Nigerian employees and reversal of hike in electrical energy tariff.

“Our branches are hereby enjoined to hitch within the strike motion as an affiliate member of Congress.

“Consequently, branch chairpersons are to mobilise all members to participate in the strike action. Yours in the struggle.”
